Sour Cream Cutouts

These holiday favorite rolled cookies are especially popular with children, and the sour cream gives them a nice little tang.

Ingredients:

  • 5 cups flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup Crisco shortening
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • White or colored frosting, if desired
  • Red or green colored sugar, if desired

Method

In a medium bowl, stir together flour, baking powder, soda and salt; set aside. In a large bowl, cream sugar and shortening. Add eggs; beat well. Blend in sour cream and vanilla. Gradually add flour mixture to sour cream mixture. Cover and chill several hours or overnight. Roll out dough unto lightly floured surface and cut into desired shapes. Bake on cookie sheet at 350 degrees for 8-10 minutes until bottoms are lightly browned. Cool and decorate with white or colored frosting; sprinkle with red or green sugar, if you wish.

Notes: This is my family's favorite cookie recipe.

Number of servings: about 5 dozen
