Snickerdoodles


This buttery cookie recipe contains cream of tartar. The Snickerdoodle dough is formed into balls and rolled in a mixture of sugar and cinnamon before baking.



Ingredients:

  • 1 cup shortening (part butter or margarine)
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar  
  • 2 eggs  
  • 2 3/4 cup all-purpose flour  
  • 1 tsp cream of tartar  
  • 1 tsp baking soda  
  • 1/4 tsp salt  
  • 2 tablespoons sugar  
  • 2 tsp cinnamon                      

Method

Mix shortening, 1 1/2 cups sugar, and eggs thoroughly. Stir together flour, cream of tartar, soda, and salt. Add to egg mixture. Shape dough into small balls. Roll in mixture of 2 tablespoons sugar and 2 teaspoons cinnamon. Place 2 inches apart on ungreased baking sheet. Bake at 350 for 8 to 10 minutes. Do not brown. (They puff up at first, then flatten out.)

Notes: They don't stick to the pan.
