Chocolate Indulgence Trifle

Make an easily-put-together cake, then layer the cake cubes with condensed milk, ice cream toppings, nuts and cream. Chocolate pieces are added to the top-a delicious dessert for special occasions.

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2/3 cup boiling water
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1/4 cup milk chocolate pieces
  • 2 1/2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 cup sweetened condensed milk
  • 1/2 cup plus 1 tablespoon caramel ice cream topping
  • 1/2 cup plus 1 tablespoon chocolate-flavored syrup
  • 1/2 cup pecans, chopped
  • 1 16-ounce carton frozen whipped dessert topping, thawed
  • 1/4 cup milk chocolate pieces

Method

Place the unsweetened cocoa in a small bowl and gradually add boiling water; blend together until smooth. In a large bowl, beat together eggs and sugar until light and foamy. Fold in the cocoa mixture and chocolate pieces. Stir the flour, salt and baking powder together and fold into the mixture. Mix well. Pour the mixture into a lightly greased and floured 13x9x2-inch baking pan. Bake for 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean. Let cake cool completely in pan. In a large glass bowl or trifle bowl, crumble half the cake. Pour half of the sweetened condensed milk, 1/4 cup caramel topping, 1/4 cup chocolate syrup, 1/4 cup pecans, and half of the whipped topping. Repeat layers and top with 1/4 cup chocolate pieces. Drizzle with remaining caramel topping and chocolate syrup.

Notes: Keep refrigerated until ready to serve.

Number of servings: 10 to 12
