Brandied Cranberry Relish

This fresh cranberry relish is flavored with brandy and spices. Great with your holiday turkey or ham.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 tsp. ground cloves
  • 1 Tbsp. ground cinnamon
  • 4 cups fresh cranberries
  • 1 orange, peeled and chopped
  • 1/2 cup brandy or cognac

Method

In heavy large saucepan, combine sugar and water and bring to a boil; boil gently, uncovered, for 3 minutes without stirring. Add cloves, cinnamon, cranberries and orange. Cook, stirring occasionally, on low heat 4 to 5 minutes until cranberries begin to pop. Remove from heat and stir in brandy or cognac. Allow to cool in pan. Transfer to a bowl and chill until serving.

Notes: I have given this as gifts to friends for many years. They always look forward to receiving a jar.

Number of servings: 10 to 12 servings
